my name is Giovanna Lombardo and I have been a qualified tourist guide of Agrigento since 1989. I’m also a qualified guide of Piazza Armerina and of Ragusa. Since 2014 I have been also a qualified guide of the whole Sicilian Region. I am allowed to guide in italian, english, french, spanish, portuguese. I have also studied german and japanese.
When I work as a guide I endeavour to find out the particular interest of the people I talk to and I try to focus my explanations on the subjects of most interest to them for example mythology, architecture, art psychology, botanic, traditions, habits, food, religion.
MY GUIDED TOURS
I propose you the following itineraries in Agrigento and surrounding areas:
ITINERARY 1 (2 hours) – guided tour of the Valley of the temples including the temples of Hera (Juno), Concordia, Herakles (Hercules), Olympian Zeus and from a distance the temples of Vulcan, of Castor and Pollux and Asklepios.
ITINERARY 2 (4 hours)– including the Tour 1, the Gymnasium, the temple of Castor and Pollux, the Sanctuary of the Cthonian Deities and the Kolimbetra Garden.
ITINERARY 3 (4 hours) – including the Itinerary 1 , the Hellenistic and Roman Quarter, the Agora and the Saint Nicholas Church.
ITINERARY 4 (4 hours) – including the Itinerary 1, the Agora, the Archaeological Museum.
ITINERARY 5 (2 or 4 or 6 hours) – This is an itinerary must not be missed as it includes the charming old town of Agrigento with its maze of narrow streets and interesting historical places and monuments and its unique Francesco Sinatra’s collection of paintings by Francesco Lojacono, the most famous Sicilian landscape painter. Not to be missed by those who love palaeoanthropology, the Gerlando Bianchini’s museum.
ITINERARY 6 (2 hours) – This is a literary itinerary including Pirandello’s Birth Place and grave, Porto Empedocle (Andrea Camilleri’s and his Commissar Montalbano’s literary places) and the Scala dei Turchi (top panoramic view).
ITINERARY 7 (2 hours) – This itinerary is dedicated to Roman Agrigentum and includes the Hellenistic and Roman Quarter, the so called Iseion, the Sarcophagus of Phaedra, the Roman Villa of Realmonte, the Scala dei Turchi (top panoramic view) and Eraklea Minoa.

MY EDUCATION AND MY PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
I was born in Agrigento, Sicily, in 1960.
I had a classical education at high school in Agrigento. I studied to be an interpreter at the Scuola Superiore Interpreti Traduttori Silvio Pellico in Milan. I have a degree in English and French which I got at the Milan IULM University. I am a qualified tourist guide in italian, english, french, spanish and portuguese. I have a good knowledge of german and japanese.
I started to work in the tourist field in 1981 as guide of Agrigento and as tour manager both in Italy and abroad.
In my long career I have been guiding successfully all kinds of people from various professions and all walks of life. Among them I have been guiding the Queen of Denmark, the Duchess of Alba, the UN Secretary Lord Carrington, the Director of UNESCO Koichiro Matsura.
I love art history and archaeology which I still study in my free time in order to keep myself updated. I am also interested in botany. I travel around the World as much as I can in my free time and I have also visited the most important archaeological areas in Greece, Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Iran. I have different certificates for having participated to different seminars and conferences about archaeology and art history. I currently update my skill as a professional and cultural tourist guide.
I have worked in the field of experimental archaeology and I am the President of a local cultural association that works for the development of tourism in the old town of Agrigento.
